While New Zealand is the best place in the world to live, the climate can be harsh.  Steel & sticky salt air are not great friends.  We do all we can to protect our outdoor furniture from corrosion caused by our coastal environment.  However, sometimes it’s necessary to step it up.

Stainless Steel is one of the best defences against sea spray, ocean winds, humidity & high rainfall areas.

Use the Benmore as a statement piece in your entranceway, or in a quiet space, sitting on your porch. It will also fit at the end of a bed.

A moveable solid metal plate creates additional options. Position the plate on top to create a stable place for cups & glasses. Place it below to hold shoes, books, & plants. For a sleeker more streamlined look, remove it completely.

Because of the handcrafted nature of making the Benmore Bench Seat, each one is unique, Ico Trader's  furniture is not mass produced! The straightness of wires depends on where the wire is taken from the roll. We consider a little wiggle in the wires as personality, not a fault.

  • Measures: 150L x 38D x 46cmH
  • Load-bearing capacity: 180kg
  • Finish: PVDF Base Coat + Powder-Coated Colour Finish
  • Stainless steel 201: 11% Chromium, 5.5% Nickel, Manganese and others 3.5%(providing corrosion resistance).

To keep your Ico Traders furniture in top condition, please follow their care and maintenance instructions below.

Unpacking Tips

When unwrapping your furniture:

  • Use care with knives or scissors to avoid scratching the surface

  • Avoid placing table tops or wire surfaces directly on the ground, we recommend a soft blanket or carpet, to avoid scratches.

Cleaning Guidelines

To keep your wire furniture clean:

  • Use a soft cloth, mild non-detergent soap, and water

  • Avoid abrasive sponges or harsh cleaners, which can scratch the surface

  • For stubborn grime, use a non-abrasive multi-purpose or window cleaner

Always inspect your furniture while cleaning. If you notice scratches or early signs of rust, apply touch-up paint immediately to prevent further damage.

Also, clean off bird droppings and sunscreen as soon as possible. These substances can break down the protective finish and lead to staining or corrosion.

Regular Maintenance Tips

Taking a few regular steps will extend the life of your furniture and keep it looking great:

  • Check that plastic sliders on the feet are still in place. Replace any that go missing to avoid metal-to-ground contact.

  • If you see rust forming from a bump or scratch, touch it up quickly using enamel paint. You can also spray affected areas with WD-40 or CRC to drive out moisture and prevent corrosion.

  • To treat T-staining, apply a liquid or paste polish or even car wax. The earlier you act, the better the results.

Caring for Furniture in Harsh Conditions

New Zealand’s coastal and wet-weather environments can be tough on iron and steel.

  • If you live near the sea, we strongly recommend our premium stainless steel range.  While it looks exactly the same, it will resist salt air and moisture more effectively.

  • Wash down regularly to remove sticky salt residue.  This is what causes harm to paintwork and steel.
  • Cover your furniture when it’s not in use, especially during winter. Use a breathable cover to avoid mould build-up and moisture retention.

  • For maximum protection, store furniture in a dry, sheltered, and well-ventilated area during the off season. Doing so will also reduce the chance of knocks and scrapes & keep your furniture looking good.
